Two Titles on the Line: Jones Boxes Munoz on April 17 at Boardwalk Hall in AC

Unbeaten Mike Jones, of Philadelphia, PA, and Hector Munoz, of Albuquerque, NM, will be fighting for two championship belts when they collide in a scheduled 10-round welterweight contest this Saturday evening, April 17, at the 10,000-seat Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.

Not only will Jones’ North American Boxing Association (NABA) title be at stake, but the North American Boxing Organization (NABO) also will recognize the winner as its champion. The NABO championship currently is vacant.

Jones, 26, scored the biggest win of his career on February 27 when he earned a unanimous 10-round decision over former world-title challenger Henry Bruseles, of Gurabo, Puerto Rico, in front of a standing-room-only crowd in the Grand Ballroom of Bally’s Atlantic City.

A professional since 2005, Jones is 20-0, 16 K0s. He is ranked No. 6 by the World Boxing Association (WBA), No. 10 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF), No. 11 by the World Boxing Organization (WBO) and No. 17 by the World Boxing Council (WBC). Read more

Kina Malpartida Dyson (March 25, 1980- ) is a female professional boxer. She is the World Boxing Association Champion in the Super Featherweight class. Currently, Kina is being trained by Victor (Mando) Huerta at the Maywood Boxing Club in Maywood, California and is under new management with George Talledo. Mando and George have been instrumental in helping Kina to win and maintain her title.

Kina has managed to develop an enormous following with a sold-out event in Peru on her first defense of the WBA World Champion title won at the Madison Square Garden back in February 2009 against Maureen Shea.

The leadership of Kina winning and defending successfully her WBA Championship belt has caused her to become a role model for women and children in South America. In July 2009 the powerful Latin Business Association (LBA), during their Annual Sol Awards Ceremony at the Century Biltmore Hotel awarded Kina the Chairman’s Global Leadership Award due to her outstanding role as a leader at a global level and as a role model for women and children.

Kina is in the process of organizing the Kina Dynamite Foundation for poor and disadvantaged children. After her first defense of her title, Kina spent considerable amount of time participating in charitable events for poor and disadvantaged children in the north part of Peru.

WAPA America to Broadcast the Final Round from the AIBA World Boxing Championships, Live from Milan

Two Puerto Ricans to Fight for Gold Medal in their Respective Categories

Beginning at 7:30 a.m. ET on Saturday, October 12, WAPA America, the U.S. cable network arm of the leading broadcaster in Puerto Rico, WAPA Television, will transmit the final round for the Gold Medal at the 2009 AIBA (International Boxing Federation) World Championships from Milan.

Two Puerto Rican fighters, Jose Pedraza (60 kg) and McWilliams Arroyo (51 kg), won their matches today and will be competing for the Gold Medal in their respective categories. If they win, this will mark the first time Puerto Rico has had two medalists in the AIBA World Championships since 1974.

The AIBA World Championships Milan 2009 is the premier 13-day amateur boxing event in which 554 boxers from 133 countries participate with the aim of world championship glory. The event is taking place at the Mediolanum Forum in Milan, Italy.

Since Tuesday, September 8, WAPA America has been transmitting daily primetime coverage of the best matches from the World Championships, devoting special attention to fighters from Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Mexico and other Latin American countries of interest to U.S. Hispanic viewers.

Following the live transmission of the Gold Medal round Saturday morning, viewers can catch a retransmission of the final round on Saturday, September 12, at 9 p.m. ET on WAPA America.
