Mladenovic Named Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach at Hope International University
Hope International University is pleased to announce the hiring of Rajko Mladenovic as the new Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach effective immediately. Mladenovic takes over the reins of the Men’s program for which he has spent the last four years serving up aces and returning volleys from the baseline. He is no stranger to the women’s program after serving as their assistant coach just a season ago.
Mladenovic takes over the tennis programs from his coach of one year and former teammate Felix Haufe. Under Coach Haufe, the Royals produced their first two NAIA All-Americans in tennis (Mladenovic and Bettina Radke).
Athletic Director Aaron Siefker said, “We are very excited about Rajko making the transition from a Hope International Tennis Player to a Hope International Tennis Coach. He has been a fine example of what it means to be a Christian student athlete. I am confident that he will lead our tennis programs with the same drive and passion that he showed as a player.”
As a player, Mladenovic finished his four year career with 55 wins in singles play — an HIU tennis record. As a senior, he was named a 2009 NAIA All-American after posting a 15-8 record.
In 2008, he led the Royals to a National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Championship. He was named an NCCAA Singles All-American for his play at the national tournament.
Born and raised in Serbia, Mladenovic has been playing tennis since the age of eight. By the age of fifteen, he was playing under legendary coach Srdjan Daskovic.
Mladenovic credits his family (Radomir, Bozana, and Mihajlo) for his success in life. He stated “My family is very important to me, and without their support I could never succeed in my life and career.”
Founded in 1928, Hope International University is a private Christian University comprised of two schools: Pacific Christian College and the School of Graduate & Professional Studies. The University provides students with a leadership and ethics focused education through undergraduate and graduate programs in business, education, ministry, music, psychology and counseling, human development and more. Total University enrollment is approximately 1700 students representing 35 states and 40 countries.

Danny Wallace Joins Global Fight Against MS
Former Man Utd star Danny Wallace is helping to shine the spotlight on the condition that ended his career early by joining together with the MS Society to support World MS Day.
The first coordinated world-wide initiative to highlight the proliferation of multiple sclerosis (MS) is being launched Wednesday 27 May)with more than 200 events in 61 countries in a concerted effort to raise global awareness of the disease.
World MS Day coincides with the football Champions League final, where Danny’s former team take on FC Barcelona in Rome.
Bidding Sir Alex and the team good luck, Danny said: “I’ve seen first hand how MS can turn someone’s life upside down. I wish I was still playing but I love the game and that will never change; neither will the importance of raising awareness of this debilitating condition.”
FC Barcelona’s star player and manager Lionel Messi and Josep Guardiola have also come out in support of the special day.
Argentinean Messi said: “Whenever I go out to the field, whenever I kick the ball and whenever I run to catch it, every step and every effort I make will be a tribute to the people who live with a much more difficult challenge, to fight every day against MS.”
This first ever World MS Day has been organised by Multiple Sclerosis International Federation (MSIF – http://www.msif.org) and by MS Societies in 61 countries around the world.
UK MS Society Chief Executive, Simon Gillespie, said: “The MS Society is delighted to be part of World MS Day and it is right that we shine the spotlight on this condition, which can have a devastating affect on people’s lives.
“With global co-operation, we will together be able to help the millions around the world who are affected by MS and their fight against the disease.”
The day aims to be a day of unity, strength and solidarity, where people affected by MS in homes, towns and cities across the world come together to take positive action on MS.
The goal is to mobilise and expand the global MS movement by encouraging people to talk about their MS experiences, donate to support people affected by MS and to fund research, join MS organisations around the world and encourage politicians to take action.
In the lead-up to this first ever World MS Day, US climber Lori Schneider has reached the summit of Mt Everest and is believed to be the first person with diagnosed MS to stand at the top of the world.
Meanwhile rock group U2 has lent support through the use of its song ‘Beautiful Day’ for the global campaign film showing the ‘Beautiful Day/ 1000 faces of Multiple Sclerosis’, which will be released on 00.01 GMT Wednesday 27 May.
MS is found in every country in the world, and is one of the most common neurological diseases amongst people in their 20s and 30s. It affects people often at the beginning of their working lives, when they are starting a family. MS affects at least twice as many women as men. Up to 60% of people diagnosed with MS will suffer long-term disability. So far, there is no proven cause and no cure.
Peer Baneke, CEO of MSIF, said: “No matter where they live, people with MS, their families, friends and the wider community, need to come together to help fight this disease and allow people in any country to discuss their MS openly. We want to support those who have MS and work together across the globe to find a cure.”

The first UFC fighter to receive this award and recognition is Forrest Griffin.

Griffin is an ardent supporter of Wounded Warrior Project, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to honor and empower wounded warriors. He actively enlists his time and energy to raise awareness for the needs of severely injured service men and women and to support them on the road to healing both physically and mentally. As winner of the Authentic Spirit Awards, Tequila CAZADORES will present Griffin with an Authentic Spirit Award plaque and $1,000 donation made in his name to Wounded Warrior Project.

Each month the winning fighter will be presented with a plaque and a $1,000 check from Tequila CAZADORES to the fighter’s charity of choice. Honeywell to Help Secure Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games
Perimeter Intrusion Detection System and 24/7 Support Will Help Canadian Police Keep Venues Safe
Honeywell announced that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has selected the company to provide a perimeter intrusion detection system for 18 of the major venues that will be used during the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Under the $30.5-million (CAD) contract, Honeywell is responsible for the installation, support and eventual removal of the system, which will help secure approximately 27 kilometers of event perimeter.
The system will consist of assessment and detection equipment mounted around the Olympic and Paralympic venues. When a potential disturbance is identified, alarms will activate allowing security personnel to respond quickly. Honeywell will also provide round-the-clock service support to ensure the system is fully operational at all times throughout the games.
“This contract ensures that we will have the appropriate infrastructure in place around the venues that we are mandated to secure for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games,” said Assistant Commissioner Bud Mercer, Chief Operating Officer of the Vancouver 2010 Integrated Security Unit. “Perimeter intrusion detection is an important part of a multi-layered security strategy and this announcement confirms that we are on track and continue to move forward.”
Honeywell will start staging and testing the system immediately, and install the equipment as the various venues come online. The system will encompass a wide range of locations, including diverse landscapes from mountain terrain to urban settings. To meet the tight timelines and geographic challenges, Honeywell will work with local contractors – employing more than 200 people at peak – and draw on its experience with previous large-scale security installations, as well as security and facility projects for the Beijing 2008 and Sydney 2000 Olympics.
Following the closing ceremony of the Paralympic Games, Honeywell will disassemble and remove the system. The company will take steps to specify equipment and materials that can be reused for other projects, strategically aligning with Vancouver’s sustainability commitment for the 2010 games.
“There’s no delaying the games. So this project not only requires advanced technology and engineering, but the management expertise and resources to deliver the system on time,” said Paul Orzeske, President of Honeywell Building Solutions. “That’s a combination we excel at. It’s part of our commitment to building a world that’s safer and more secure. And we’re excited to help create a winning environment for participants and spectators.”
