Al Bernstein Boxing Channel to Cover Live Pre & Post Dawson/Tarver Fight

iBN Sports, a premier Internet-based broadcast sports television network announced that its Al Bernstein Channel (ABBC) will provide live weigh-in along with pre and post fight coverage of the October 11th light-heavyweight title match between Chad Dawson and Antonio Tarver from the Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Dawson/Tarver coverage represents the first in a series of up to the minute pre and post coverage of premiere matches that the ABBC will offer to fans throughout 2008. The lineup will include Kelly Pavlik vs. Bernard Hopkins on October 18th, Vic Darchinyan vs. Christian Mijares on November 1st, Ricky Hatton vs. Paulie Malinaggi on November 22nd, and finally Oscar De La Hoya vs. Manny Pacquiao on December 6th. Injured Veterans Attend New Rehabilitative Sports Clinic in San Diego
More than 50 recently injured veterans from around the country are coming to San Diego to experience the thrills of adaptive surfing, sailing, track and field, kayaking and cycling at the first National Veterans Summer Sports Clinic, a rehabilitative sports experience sponsored by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and hosted by the VA San Diego Healthcare System.
“The adaptive sports offered at this clinic will provide these veterans a unique environment for self development,” said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Dr. James B. Peake. “For many of these veterans, this event will provide their first exposure to recreational sports and other activities after being injured.”
The National Veterans Summer Sports Clinic takes place Sept. 28 through Oct. 3 with opening ceremonies at Sea World. Other events will be held at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Kellogg Park in La Jolla Shores, the Embarcadero Marina Park, the Mission Bay Yacht Club and the San Diego Marriott Hotel. Admission is free for the public.
Recreational sports can be an important part of therapy for many disabilities. VA is a recognized leader in rehabilitation, with therapeutic programs available at VA health care facilities across the nation. Programs like the Summer Sports Clinic have helped many veterans with injuries to heal and gain confidence to pursue their ambitions.
The event is open to newly injured veterans who have spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, certain neurological conditions, amputations, other mobility impairments, or post-traumatic stress disorder.

New Bowling World Record: More Than Half a Million Games Played in a Single Day
548,721 Games Played Across 808 Centers in a Single Day as Part of National Bowling Day Challenge
Strike Ten Entertainment, the marketing arm of the Bowling Proprietors’ Association of America (BPAA), announced a new bowling world record of the most games played in a single day. For the first time ever, more than 800 bowling centers joined forces in a nationwide challenge to record the largest number of games bowled during a 24 hour period. On National Bowling Day (August 30, 2008), 808 centers participated in the challenge, recording 548,721 games played.
“This new world record is a great milestone for the sport of bowling and an exciting day for our industry. The hundreds of thousands of people who visited bowling centers to help set this record is a testament to the incredible popularity that bowling is enjoying and the continued resurgence of our sport,” said Jim Sturm, president of the BPAA. “This follows a trend that has seen bowling participation continue to increase every year, with more than 67 million people having bowled in 2007 alone. We’re already looking forward to setting new records in 2009 and beyond.”
The new bowling world record is recognized by the Bowling Proprietors’ Association of America (BPAA), International Bowling Pro Shop and Instructors Association (IBPSIA), Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) and the United States Bowling Congress (USBC).

UFC and Spike TV Present UFC Fight For The Troops
Three-Hour UFC Live Event On December 10 From Fort Bragg, NC To Raise Money For Treatment Center Serving Soldiers With Brain Injuries
The Ultimate Fighting Championship(R) and Spike TV have joined forces to present “UFC Fight For The Troops(TM)”, a special three-hour live televised event on Wednesday, December 10 starting at 9:00 PM, ET to raise funds to build a treatment center for the brave men and women in the United States Armed Forces who have experienced traumatic brain injuries. The facility is being sponsored, built and equipped by the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. The announcement was made today by Dana White, UFC President and Kevin Kay, Spike TV President.
The goal of “UFC Fight For The Troops” is to raise the necessary funds for The National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE), an advanced research facility in Bethesda, MD dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of military personnel and veterans suffering from traumatic brain injury (TBI) and psychological health issues.
“With this event on December 10th, we hope to raise millions for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund and to help increase national awareness for the meaningful ways the National Intrepid Center of Excellence will impact the lives of our service personnel here in the United States,” said White.
