Schuylkill Banks Kicks Off Summer Kayak Tours

Urban river kayaking has gained in popularity thanks to the Schuylkill River Development Corporation’s revitalization of the lower banks of the Schuylkill.

Most people who love to kayak enjoy the outdoor experience, appreciating nature as they paddle along a scenic river. For those lucky enough to kayak along the lower banks of the Schuylkill, they get to enjoy the flora and fauna, as well as the skyscrapers, unique bridges and the Fairmount Dam. That’s the unique experience of the Schuylkill Banks Kayak Tours.

Beginning Saturday, June 7, at 10:00 AM at Schuylkill Banks Walnut Street Dock, Hidden River Outfitters will again be hosting its popular guided kayak tours of the Schuylkill River between Walnut Street Dock and Fairmount Water Works, including one half hour of instruction. Tours will also take place at Noon and 2:00 PM.

The tours will take place through Sunday, October 19, and include specialized excursions to Bartram’s Gardens, and in July and August, special moonlight tours beginning at dusk.

For the past three years, Schuylkill Banks has hosted the kayak tours, which more than 800 people have participated. Rather than trekking miles from home to enjoy the sport.

Schuylkill Banks provides an easily accessible urban tidal river to exercise or enjoy an afternoon of leisure in the heart of the city.

The tours are $40.00 per person, and $75.00 per person for the advanced Bartram’s Garden’s Tour, which includes lunch and a tour of the Gardens. For more information on times and dates visit Schuylkill Banks’ website, www.schuylkillbanks.org, or to register for the tours, call 215-222-6030, ext. 100.
