Head coach Mike D’Antoni, 57, and the Phoenix Suns are parting ways after a memorable four and a half seasons.
On Tuesday, D’Antoni was signed to take over the head coaching position with the New York Knicks. The decision came after more than a week filled with speculation on whether he would continue as the Suns head coach.
When asked about the decision to leave Phoenix, D’Antoni had nothing but good things to say of his former team.
“My family has been fortunate to call Phoenix our home for the past six years,” said D’Antoni. “We’ve been welcomed by the community and I hope we’ve managed to give back with as much generosity and love as we have received.”
“I have nothing but the utmost respect and appreciation for the Suns Family and the residents of Phoenix. The fans have supported this program with great enthusiasm. I’m proud to have worked with some of the finest players in the NBA and I wish the team continued success.”
